Chicago Motion Pictures was founded by Jan Novak, Adam Novak and Andrew Zoechbauer to produce documentaries and films with compelling stories. We support our narrative habit by day-job projects that range from weddings to corporate promotions.

Jan Novak was born in the Czech Republic and emmigrated to the United States at the age of 17. He was educated at the University of Chicago and has been making his living as a writer. Most recently he was awarded the Czech Republic's most prestigous prize, the Magnesia Litera, for the Book of the Year of 2004. (So Far, So Good, Petrov, 2004). He has also won two Sandburg Prizes for Chicago's Book of the Year (The Willys Dream Kit, Hartcourt, Brace, Jovanovich, 1985, fiction; Commies, Spooks, Gypsies, Crooks & Poets, Steerforth Press, 1995, non-fiction). Among his other books are a novel, The Grand Life, and the co-authored autobiography of Milos Forman, Turnaround, which was translated into sixteen languages.

Jan Novak has also collaborated on the screenplay for the Forman film Valmont and written the screenplay for The Wonderful Years That Sucked, a comedy that was the top box office earner in the Czech Republic in 1997. His play Ax murder in St. Petersburg was the finalist for the Slovak Play of the Year in 2001 and has been playing in the repertory of Bratislava's Astorka Theater ever since.

In recent years, Jan Novak has been focusing on film making, having co-authored and co-produced the feature-length documentaries 3x12 (2004) and Citizen Vaclav Havel Goes on Vacation (2005).

Adam Novak grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, but attended his fourth and eigth grades in the public schools of Prague, Czech Republic. He is currently a student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he has been concentrating on photography and film-making.

Andrew Zoechbauer is a designer working in Chicago. Having recently graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago receiving a BFA with emphasis in visual communication and art & technology, he now spends his time creating motion graphics and interactive as well as traditional print design.
